Karen Evans-Romaine

Karen Evans-Romaine is second author, together with Richard Robin and Galina Shatalina, George Washington University, of Golosa, a two-volume introductory Russian textbook, now in its 5^th edition (Pearson, 2011/2013); she is also co-editor, together with first editor Tatiana Smorodinskaya and Helena Goscilo, of the Routledge Encyclopedia of Contemporary Russian Culture (2007). Her interests include language pedagogy, particularly the teaching and acquisition of L2 listening skills; language proficiency and curricular assessment; the teaching of literature, culture, and music in the FL classroom; and heritage language learning. As director of the UW-Madison Russian Flagship Program, Evans-Romaine, together with first author and Russian Flagship Associate Director Dianna Murphy and SLA doctoral student Snezhana Zheltoukhova, published “Student and Tutor Perspectives of Tutoring in a Russian Flagship Program,” Russian Language Journal 62 (2012), 107-127, and plan to conduct further research on various aspects of the Russian Flagship Program, together with other Flagship colleagues. She regularly teaches Slavic 804: Methods of Teaching Slavic Languages as well as courses in advanced Russian language, Russian literature, and Russian culture.
